    Charlie's History

Charlie's Cheesecake Works began as a passion project in 2002 when Charlie Major started baking cheesecakes for local hotels, restaurants, and grocery stores. Word spread quickly about the ultra-creamy texture, rich flavors, and handmade crusts, and what started as a mostly wholesale business quickly grew to a full-time wholesale/retail business. In June of 2002, we opened our first retail outlet in the Almaden Valley area of San Jose.

Over the years, we've expanded our menu, introduced seasonal and custom flavors, and had the honor of being part of countless birthdays, weddings, and celebrations.

In 2022, Chuck, Charlie's son, joined the business and assumed the role of head baker. Now a true family-owned business, we continue to thrive in the Bay Area and remain committed to providing the best cheesecake in Northern California.

At Charlie's Cheesecake Works, we believe cheesecake should be an experience, not just a dessert. Every product is handcrafted in small batches using high-quality, fresh ingredients—real cream cheese, farm-fresh eggs, and buttery crusts made from scratch. From classic New York style (Silicon Valley Classic) to creative seasonal flavors, we pour time, care, and creativity into every slice. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself, our goal is to bring a little extra joy to your table—one perfectly creamy cheesecake at a time.

    The "Cheesecake Challenge"

Since 2002, Charlie has kept a fun tradition alive by challenging kids under 18 to solve a math question in exchange for free cheesecake for themselves and their entire party. Most kids jump at the chance, and they are given hints if they get stuck. Over the years, we've even had grown-ups come back to tell us they once did the same challenge as kids, including two who say it helped inspire them to become math teachers!
